puffins

there wasn't much thought behind this one, i just cut out the puffins for use in the small birds tear, but realised that the space left behind was relatively intact and made something out of it. it brings to mind the northern sea birds that were hunted to extinction, e.g. the great auks, and kind of references that sort of, emptiness due to extinction and being forever missing due to human intervention vibe. due to the composition of the original image this kind of sad serene atmosphere is present.

in terms of thoughts about collage in the specific circumstance of my images: i think especially when you use old images, especially the physical original ones and not copies, you are kind of asserting yourself as egotistically improving upon something that is already an artwork within itself. like even if this puffin photo is a photocopy, the fact that i am then intervening with it is a rather self assured but in an egotistical way of "i can improve it by [taking it apart/altering it/painting over it]" etc. I am unsure what the conclusion of this thought is.

Guilia : use window as the backhorund/ framing (espeically with the cut out images where the subject is the negative space)

The subject matter is very free? And especially because I have the window view, and the birds outside, I can use the window as part of the work

-- I am concerned it'll look too cheap? And empty and free and without any solid thing pulling it together, and so it'll look too cliche like when people decorate their windows for aesthetic.

Also going off of this tranluscent way of working with the window and the light way of working i missed on tuesday, i want to take a piece of tracing paper and trace over each bird that moves outside the window, maybe for a couple hours, to build up this layered sense of life? of the birds?

Tomaso: repetition and enquiry through very thorough repetition

The red is almost a curtain over the man - - develop into like a larvae, which has connotations of being a pest and an ugly mark on an otherwise aesthetic natural landscape

The cheetah-slug and the reded-out man in the photo are very unsettling, because you're not sure what you're looking at
